In the week when we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway Martin Peagam explains why this event was so significant. He will delve into the origins of the railway and explore the lives of some of those associated with the birth and development of the railway.
Come along to hear about the significance of a short stretch of track in Eaglescliffe, the link between umbrellas and railways, and about a number of 'railway firsts', including the first murder, and where to find the first railway pub. The talk will be followed by Q&A and a 20 minute film screening of 'The First Rail' (Illustrated by Sandra Johnston).
